HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Aiming to build off of the fantastic campaign a season ago, the University of Alabama in Huntsville men's soccer team will kick off the 2012 slate on Saturday at Lincoln Memorial with a 2 p.m. CDT contest.
The Chargers enter the season picked to finish third in the Gulf South Conference, and the team boasts preseason all-GSC selection
Kyle Simmons who was among the best in the nation in scoring last year. Also expected to be a major contributor is
Ragnar Leosson who transferred to UAH from Division I Virginia Commonwealth.
Returning for his second year, senior
Kel Markert will attempt to be even better after a strong junior year that saw the keeper record six shutouts.
The hosts for Saturday's contest were picked to finish fourth in the South Atlantic Conference and feature four preseason all-conference selections, but the Railsplitters lost several key players from last year's squad that just edged UAH in Huntsville last season.
LMU won the contest 2-1 in overtime on a score off a free kick in the waning moments of the first extra period.
