Chargers Strong In Narrow Loss At Christian Brothers

Box Score MEMPHIS – Opening up Gulf South Conference play on the road, the University of Alabama in Huntsville men's soccer team fell by a 2-1 score on Friday night at Christian Brothers. The loss drops the Chargers to 0-4 (0-1 GSC) on the year, and CBU improves to 2-3 (1-0 GSC),

UAH surrendered an early goal, allowing David Skull to score off a header from a corner kick in the sixth minute.

The Blue and White settled down after the score, and the team applied quite a bit of pressure in the final 20 minutes of the first half to keep the score 1-0 at the halftime break.

Putting forth their best effort of the season thus far, the Chargers played strong into the second half as well, with the hosts scoring their second goal on a penalty kick in the 64th minute after an unintentional foul produced the chance.

Scoring his first goal of the season, Ragnar Leosson created the 2-1 final when he rocketed one into the left side of the net in the 90th minute.

Kel Markert made six saves – several of which were particularly strong –  in the loss, including four in the first half that kept his squad in the contest.

The Chargers will look to build upon the strong work from Friday's game when they travel to Delta State for a 3 p.m. contest on Sunday.
