Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Despite a furious offensive start to the contest, the University of Alabama in Huntsville men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Shorter on Thursday at Charger Park. UAH slides to 0-6 (0-3 Gulf South Conference), and the Hawks improve to 2-4-1 (1-2 GSC).
The Blue and White had numerous chances in the game's first 15 minutes but unfortunately were unable to score, unable to capitalize on a pair of wide-open nets with balls that were sent high in addition to a pair of additional strong chances.
After the Chargers spent most of the time at their attacking end, Shorter was able to completely swing the match in its favor when they were awarded a penalty kick in the 29th minute and Irvin Espinal was true on the try.
The Hawks added another score in the 37th when Diego Gonzalez scored to give the visitors a 2-0 lead at the half.
Putting his team back in the contest,
Ragnar Leosson took the ball off a header from
Jacob Brumbeloe and put it past the Shorter keeper to cut the lead in half at 2-1 in the 61st minute, but the Chargers ultimately would fall short.
Shots on goal in the contest were even at 7-7, and Shorter held a 14-11 advantage in overall shots. The Chargers took four corners compared to three for the Hawks.
UAH will hit the road once again on Saturday as they travel to Georgia Southwestern.
