UAH Falls 2-0 To Hot West Alabama Squad

Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of Alabama in Huntsville fell to West Alabama on Sunday at Charger Park, dropping a 2-0 decision to the first-year program. UWA improves to an impressive 9-1 (5-0 Gulf South Conference), while the Chargers fall to 1-9 (0-6 GSC).

This marks the second consecutive year that a first-year team has made an impressive run through Gulf South Conference soccer as Valdosta State did it last year on the women's side, and Sunday's win marks the seventh straight for the Tigers.

The contest was scoreless until Clay Green scored in the 32nd minute to put the visitors up 1-0, and he added to the lead in the 64th with his second of the day to make the 2-0 final.

The Tigers held the Blue and White in check, limiting UAH to just four shots – two on goal – while firing off 14 including five that were on frame as Kel Markert made three saves for the Chargers in the contest. West Alabama also held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.

One of UAH's attempts came just after the first Green goal as Kyle Simmons found himself write in front of the West Alabama goal, but Jack Moore was able to get to the ground and swallow up the ball to prevent what would have been a sure score for the UAH sophomore.

The contest was relatively chippy with 19 fouls being called and a pair of cautions being issued.

The Chargers will now look to regroup as they do not hit the pitch again until Oct. 12 when Christian Brothers.
