UAH Climbs the Standings with 2-1 Win Over Bucs

Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of Alabama in Huntsville picked up yet another key Gulf South Conference men's soccer win on Sunday, defeating visiting Christian Brothers 2-1 at Charger Park to take the season series from the Bucs. UAH improves to 7-4-1 (5-4-0 GSC) with the win, while the Bucs slip to 6-6-0 (4-5-0 GSC).

The win pushes the Chargers one point ahead of West Alabama into second among teams that are eligible for the GSC Championships at the end of the regular season.

The first half was a pretty even affair with both teams taking a pair of shots, but the Chargers would go into intermission with a 1-0 lead as a late score off the foot of Hermann Bjornsson gave UAH the advantage with four minutes remaining in the half.

The freshman notched his third goal in the team's past two games as he was able to finish a free kick from just outside the top of the box.

Padding the lead just over eight minutes into the second half, UAH would receive a fortunate break when a James Ballamy corner deflected off of a Christian Brothers player and then soared into the air before bouncing just over the goal line to make it 2-0.

Immediately cutting the two-goal deficit in half were the visitors, however, as Christian Brothers was awarded a penalty kick a minute later in the 55th, and Jose Ferraz was able to bury it home for his seventh of the season.

Though CBU would apply further pressure and end up with a 7-4 advantage in shots for the contest, no other Buccaneer attempt would reach the target as the Chargers picked up their fourth straight home win.

UAH continues its homestand looking to avenge a loss from earlier in the season when West Alabama visits for a 7:30 p.m. contest on Friday.
