Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's soccer team fell 2-0 to visiting West Alabama on Friday night at Charger Park. UAH slips to 7-5-1 (5-5-0 GSC) while the Tigers improve to 8-4-1 (5-4-1 GSC).
West Alabama moves a point ahead of the Chargers in the GSC standings with the victory, and UAH is now third among schools that are eligible for the postseason.
The hosts controlled play through much of the first half, putting together a 9-5 advantage in shots in the first 45 minutes, and the Chargers had three of their shots land on frame in the period with
Esra Arnason, Isleifur Gudmundson and
Ryo Suzuki registering the on-goal attempts.
The second half was a more even affair as the shots were even at 6-6, and it was West Alabama who was able to get an attempt in the back of the net as Traye Torrance scored in the 63rd minute, and Thibault Charmey padded the lead with his eighth of the season as he tallied in the 72nd minute.
For the contest, the Chargers held a 15-11 advantage in shots – including a 5-3 edge in shots on goal – and the squad also held a 7-2 edge in corner kicks.
The Chargers will look to bounce back on Sunday when No. 21 West Florida visits. Kick-off is slated for 3 p.m. at Charger Park.
