Gunnarsdottir Stunning as UAH Draws with No. 21 Lee

Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's soccer team proved to be a tremendous challenge on Sunday for the nation's 21st-ranked team, playing to a 1-1 draw with visiting Lee at Charger Park. UAH's record moves to 3-8-5 (1-6-2 GSC), while Lee goes to 10-3-1 (7-1-1 GSC).

Iris Gunnarsdottir established a new career high in saves in her penultimate match on the Charger Park pitch, stopping 12 shots – including a pair in the second overtime – to aid in forcing the tie. The senior's efforts cooled down what had been a red-hot Lee as the Lady Flames had averaged 5.25 goals per game in the four games leading up to Sunday.

Though the visitors outshot the Lady Chargers by a 10-0 clip in the first 45 minutes, the game was scoreless through halftime, and it was UAH's first shot on goal of the game that would prove to be the first score of the contest.

In the 48th minute, Maddie Maurice earned her second assist of the season on the play as she played the ball forward to Sydnie Fiocca who would finish a strong run by beating a defender and booting the ball into the back of the net for her third goal of the season.

The three goals place Fiocca with Klaire Phillips for the team lead.

UAH would maintain the 1-0 lead until the 72nd minute when Laura Thacker scored her eighth of the season to level the affair at 1-1.

The Lady Chargers would nearly regain the advantage late in regulation as both Summer Mooney and Niina Jetsu had strong attempts that were put on frame but saved by Lee keeper Haley Gibler in the final five minutes of the half.

Neither team would then do much in the first overtime, and the Lady Flames recorded five of their 28 shots in the second overtime only to be denied by Gunnarsdottir.

UAH will now close out its home slate on Wednesday when North Alabama visits for a non-conference match. Kick-off will be at 7 p.m. at Charger Park.
