HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Coming off a successful weekend at the Charger Chillout, the No. 24 University of Alabama in Huntsville softball will make the short trip to Alabama A&M on Friday at 2 p.m. before travelling to Florence for a set of four games on Saturday and Sunday. The team enters the weekend with a mark of 7-3.
The Chargers are coming off an impressive six-game stretch at the Chillout where they won five of six games. UAH dispatched Palm Beach Atlantic, Barry, Augusta State, Maryville and Kentucky Wesleyan while dropping a contest to now-No. 4 North Georgia. UAH crossed the plate 53 times during the weekend while limiting the opposition to just 15 runs.
The strong performance helped propel the team into the national rankings, placing 24th in the NFCA Division II poll.
A key player for the Chargers thus far has been
Brianna Sullivan. In ten games, Sullivan is hitting .467 in 30 at-bats, and she paces the team in hits (14), runs scored (10), and steals (eight). Additionally, she features an impressive on-base percentage of .556.
Alabama A&M opened the season on Wednesday and dropped a pair of 12-0 decisions to Jacksonville State.
In Florence, UAH will take on Georgia College and Drury at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., respectively, before turning around to face Missouri-St. Louis at 10 a.m. and No. 7 Indianapolis at noon.
The Chargers met Indianapolis in Huntsville last season and won 5-2 as
Whitney Toler tossed a complete-game victory.
