Men's Tennis Blanks Alabama A&M 7-0

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Surpassing the team's win total from a season ago, the University of Alabama in Huntsville men's tennis team swept visiting Alabama A&M by a 7-0 score on Tuesday afternoon. The win pushes the Chargers to 6-5 on the year.

Playing under Division I rules which give just one point to the team who wins the majority of the doubles matches, the Chargers captured the point with ease as Jose Soto and Nestor Perez won 8-3 at No. 1 doubles while 8-2 was the final at the No. 2 for Christopher Kano and Raphael Oliveira. Alabama A&M did not field a No. 3 pairing.

The Bulldogs also did not compete at the No. 6 in singles to provide a quick 2-0 advantage for the Chargers, and it was 3-0 for the match when Perez secured the No. 2 singles point with a 6-1, 6-4 victory.

Fredrik Graaner sealed the match for the Blue and White with a 7-6 (5), 6-1 win at the third position.

Helping his team earn the shutout, Soto won 6-4, 6-4 at the top position, while Kano blanked his opponent in winning 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 4. Rounding out the day for UAH was Guillermo Reyes who won 6-1, 6-2 at the fifth spot.

The team will return to the courts on Wednesday when it welcomes Lincoln Memorial at 2 p.m.
