UAH Heads To Two GSC Foes This Weekend

Delta State: LIVE STATS | LIVE AUDIO
Christian Brothers: LIVE STATS
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. –
The University of Alabama in Huntsville softball team is set to hit the road for a pair of Gulf South Conference series as the Chargers travel to Delta State for a 1 p.m. showdown on Saturday before venturing to Christian Brothers on Sunday at 2 p.m. UAH owns a mark of 11-9 (4-2 Gulf South Conference) entering the weekend.

The squad put together a strong weekend last week, opening up home play with a sweep of West Florida before splitting with then-No. 1 Valdosta State.

The team received some of the best showings in the circle on the season – especially from freshman Kimberly Jack and senior Whitney Gilbert. Jack tossed 5.2 innings of relief while appearing in three of the games and did not allow a run, and Gilbert gave up just one run in 9.1 innings to register a 0.96 ERA, striking out seven batters in the process.

Second on the team in RBI, Abby MacKay drove in six in the four games a week ago to total 15 on the season. The senior also ranks second on the squad in batting average with a .371 mark, and Brianna Sullivan sits tops on the team with a .383 average at the dish.

The 15 RBI for MacKay is one off of Mary Kelley's total of 16, and the two-time All-American junior Kelley ranks 14th in the country with three triples on the season.

Delta State enters the two-game set on Saturday with a 10-12 (4-4 GSC) record, and the Lady Statesmen are paced offensively by Kaitlin Moore who hits .433 on the season while knocking in 16 runs. Both of Delta's starters have ERAs over 4.00.

Sunday's opponent is 6-8 (2-6 GSC) on the year, and the Lady Bucs are led by Jennifer Gonzalez who is hitting .500 with a team-best six RBI. The squad has used four different starters in the circle, and the team as a whole owns a 4.10 ERA.
