Softball Travels To West Georgia, Hosts Stillman

LIVE STATS (UWG)
LIVE STATS (UAH)
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. –
Starting a busy stretch in which the team will play four teams and eight games in five days, the University of Alabama in Huntsville softball team will travel to West Georgia on Wednesday for a 3 p.m. CDT before stepping out of conference play to host Stillman for a two-game set on Thursday at 2 p.m.

The Chargers enter the games with a 14-10 (7-3 Gulf South Conference) mark, and the team currently sits in second in the GSC behind Valdosta State (Shorter is technically in first place but is not eligible for postseason play).

Named the GSC Player of the Week after a terrific weekend against Delta State and Christian Brothers, Cortney McNett paces the UAH offense as she is hitting .386, leads the team with seven homers, and is tied for the team-lead in doubles with six. All three of those numbers land her in top 10 in the GSC in those categories.

The team also received some strong pitching last weekend in going 3-1 as Kimberly Jack was particularly impressive. The freshman lowered her ERA to 1.55 on the year after throwing 12.1 innings without giving up an earned run, and in 49.2 innings on the season, Jack have allowed a team-low 44 hits.

The pitching staff had struggled to receive support from its defense as the Chargers at one point this season sat last in the GSC in fielding percentage, but the team has committed just one error in its last three games and moved up into the middle of the pack in the conference in the process.

West Georgia now is at the bottom of the league with a .946 fielding percentage, and the Wolves are next to last offensively with a team batting average of .269. Nicole Yancey is hitting .384 on the season to lead the squad as she owns four doubles, a triple and five home runs while driving in 20 RBI.

UWG is 10-15 overall and 3-11 in league play.

Stillman is 14-6 on the season and is led offensively by a pair of players hitting over .400 in Bailey Braughton (.446) and Januar Page (.422), and Page has an impressive five triples on the season already.

Live stats for both doubleheaders will be available.
