Chargers Return Home to Face Delta State, CBU

LIVE STATS | LIVE AUDIO (DSU)
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. –
Prepared to close out the regular season with nine consecutive games at home, the University of Alabama in Huntsville softball team will host Delta State and Christian Brothers in doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday. Both twinbillings on the season's penultimate weekend will start at 1 p.m. for the Chargers who own a 28-13 (17-6 Gulf South Conference) record.

At noon on Saturday, the UAH Department of Athletics will hold a special ceremony to dedicate the new Buster Douthit Press Box.

UAH – who is receiving votes in the national NFCA Division II Poll – split with Delta State while sweeping Christian Brothers on the road earlier this season.

Senior offensive leader Cortney McNett was particularly impressive in those four games as she was a combined 7-for-11 at the plate while driving in eight runs. On the season, the catcher is batting a team-best .407 while also leading the team in doubles and home runs with 12 and nine, respectively.

McNett ranks among the top 10 in the Gulf South Conference including leading the league in on-base percentage at .526, and her teammate Mary Kelley ranks second with an OBP of .477.

With those strong offensive performances, the team currently sits second in the standings as the Chargers own a better winning percentage than third-place Valdosta State who has the same number of GSC losses while owning fewer league wins than UAH.

Both of the teams visiting the Rocket City this weekend represent teams that could potentially match up with the Blue and White in the upcoming GSC Softball Championships as Delta State currently sits eighth with a GSC record of 8-16 while the Lady Bucs own a conference mark of 7-17.

DSU is currently 16-27 overall on the year and has lost two straight and four of the last five entering Saturday's contests.  Leading the Lady Statesmen offensively is Kaitlin Moore who bats at a .388 clip while featuring a team-best 16 doubles and 27 RBI. Of the team's regulars in the circle, Miller Maddox has posted a team-best 2.20 ERA and 53 strikeouts, while Brittany Gonzales paces the squad with nine victories.

A weekend ago, Christian Brothers swept Delta State but then dropped a mid-week contest to Rhodes to fall to 11-20 on the year. The Lady Bucs feature the league's leader in batting average is Marie Joiner who is hitting at an impressive .425 with 45 hits in 106 at-bats. Michelle McEachron maintains a 2.94 ERA with a 5-5 record and 47 strikeouts to lead the CBU pitching staff.
