HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of Alabama in Huntsville softball team will step out of conference play for the final time in the regular season when the Chargers welcome Alabama A&M for a 6 p.m. contest on Tuesday evening at Charger Park. UAH enters the contest at 32-13, while the Lady Bulldogs own a mark of 11-26.
UAH has been spectacular at home, having gone 16-1 with the lone setback to then-No. 1 Valdosta State in the team's first weekend at Charger Park this season. Since that loss, the Chargers have reeled off 14 consecutive home victories.
Three players –
Mary Kelley,
Nicole Bobrowski, and
Meagan Billingsley – have registered a batting average of .400 in home contests this season while six others are hitting at least .345.
The strong success is also not limited to the offense as the team has been strong in circle in the Rocket City. Freshman
Kimberly Jack has not allowed an earned run in 35.2 innings, and
Whitney Gilbert has posted a perfect 6-0 record with three complete games and an ERA of 1.17.
When the Chargers hosted the Lady Bulldogs a season ago, the team went 14-for-14 in stolen bases in a doubleheader, and the team will likely look to be active on the basepaths again in this season's meeting after stealing 20 bags in four games this past weekend.
That showing allowed the team to move past the century mark on the year to 104 which is far and away the top number in the league. Second-place Delta State has 48.
Alabama A&M comes into the contest on an 11-game slide as the squad has struggled offensively in hitting as a team at a .260 clip. Jasmine Riley, however, has been strong for the Lady Bulldogs as she hits .410 with a team-best 23 RBI.
The team's pitching staff features a 7.16 ERA.
Tuesday's meeting marks the ninth in the all-time series between the cross-town foes, and the Chargers have a pristine 8-0 record against A&M.
