HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – On a day that saw three seniors play their final home match, the University of Alabama in Huntsville men's tennis team knocked off visiting Christian Brothers by a 9-0 score on Wednesday. The win improves the team to 11-8 overall and 2-3 in Gulf South Conference play.
“Even though I have only gotten to know these seniors for the last year, I can tell you that they are a special bunch and will not be easy to replace at the end of the year,” said Head Coach Daniel Finn. “I am glad they got to play their last match at home and go out on top here.”
Christopher Kano,
Raphael Oliveira and
Guillermo Reyes all played their final home contest.
The match was never in question as the team started out with a 5-0 lead as the CBU was unable to fill the third doubles pairing or the fifth and sixth positions in singles while also forfeiting at the second position in doubles and the fourth in singles.
The lone pairing in doubles that played,
Nestor Perez and Oliveira teamed up for an 8-1 win.
Jose Soto did not drop a game in winning 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 1 in singles, while
Fredrik Graaner won 6-0, 6-1 at the second position. Kano also shut out his opponent, winning the No. 3 singles point 6-0, 6-0.
The squad will now head to Pensacola, Fla., where it will take on Florida Southern and West Florida this weekend.
