Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Falling for the first time this season, The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to visiting Shorter on Friday night at Charger Park. The loss in the GSC opener for both teams sets the Chargers back to 1-1-1 (0-1-0 GSC), while Shorter improves to 1-1-1 (1-0-0 GSC).
The lone goal of the contest came in the 40th minute when Irvin Espinal scored on a penalty kick after being pulled down inside the box. The successful penalty came 16 minutes after UAH had an attempt of its own denied by Shorter keeper Nicolas Ferrigno.
Down by the 1-0 score at the half, the Chargers dominated play in the second half, but the home side was unfortunately unable to finish on several strong chances it had to level the contest.

Kyle Simmons had a try hit the right post, and Esra Arnasson's attempt moments later was kept out by Ferrigno. The squad then had another sequence with rapid chances in the 77th when
Halldor Bogason and
Isleifur Gudmundsson both had strong shots before a rebound try by Gudmundsson was blocked by a Hawk defender.
The Chargers had one last shot on goal in the final minute of the contest, but
James Ballamy's attempt was saved by Ferrigno as he preserved his shutout.
UAH outshot Shorter 16-7 – including an 11-3 advantage in the second half – while also owning an 8-4 edge in shots on goal. Corner attempts on the night were strongly titled towards UAH by a 10-1 margin.
Stepping back out of conference play, the Chargers will stay at home and welcome Montevallo to Charger Park on Sunday afternoon with kick-off at 3:30 p.m.
