Box Score 2 ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Picking up its first win of the 2013 campaign, the University of Alabama in Huntsville volleyball team downed Southern Arkansas 3-0, after falling to Cameron 3-0 earlier on the final day of the HSU Classic.
Game 1: Cameron-3 UAH-0 (10-25, 21-25, 22-25)
The Lady Chargers (0-3) were unable to pick up their first win of the 2013 season in their morning match against Cameron (2-1), as the Aggies seemingly had response after response. With the exception of the first set, UAH had a lead in both the second and third, while even jumping out to a 7-0 lead in the second.
Stacey Sargent tallied 16 digs after swapping libero jerseys with
Kennedie Lariscy, who had four digs of her own. UAH finished with a low 43 percent attack percentage, while their competitors logged a 61 percent.
Sophomores
Haley Snyder and
Olivia Bauman each notched nine kills in the match, with freshman
Rachel Brugman finishing with five. Snyder finished with a team-high 11.0 points in the contest.
Jordon Lambert and
Kendall Knisley also recorded points at the net, while setter
Ashton Baker finished with a team-high 20 assists.
Game 2: UAH-3 SAU-0
UAH (1-3) picked up their first win of the 2013 season in their second match of the day, dominating Southern Arkansas in straight sets. The Lady Chargers looked like a different team than the one that competed in their first three matches of the season.
"This was the first match we showed our potential. We finally started to settle in and do the things that I want to see, we played more consistent and better defense we frustrated and wore down SAU," said Giboney.
Statistics aside, it was the first time in the young season that the Blue and White truly played as a team and were able to compete at a high level for the entire match. Southern Arkansas finished in second place last year in the Great American Conference, but had no response to the high-effort from the Lady Chargers.
Snyder again led UAH in kills with 13, but it was the strong efforts from
Rachel Brugman and Bauman, who totaled eight and seven kills respectively. The defense of Sargent,
Alexis Deal and Lariscy proved pivotal throughout the match, as they were all over the court making play after play.
Sargent recorded a team-high 15 digs, while Snyder, Deal, and Bauman each finished with five. Baker logged a season-high 33 assists to lead the way.
Playing her best game of the weekend was the sophomore Knisley, recording six kills and controlling the net throughout the contest.
The Lady Chargers will welcome cross-town rival Alabama A&M to Spragins Hall on Wed., Sept. 11, in the team's 2013 home-opener. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
