About the Lady Chargers
LET THERE BE LIGHT: The University of Alabama in Huntsville soccer programs will play the first-ever night games on campus on Sunday night when Lincoln Memorial visits. With lights being erected at the Charger Park pitch during the offseason, the entire facility is now able to host contests after sunset. The Lady Chargers are slated to host six contests under the stars this year.
Â
FAMILIAR FEELING: The Lady Chargers played three overtime games a season ago and started the season off on Friday with a contest that required extra time. Friday's game ended in a 1-1 draw with Carson-Newman – the first tie for UAH since a 3-3 deadlock with Harding on Oct. 7, 2011. Huntsville native Melody Dodd notched UAH's first goal of the season in her collegiate debut on Friday, and fellow freshman Alexandra Klein earned her first collegiate point by assisting on the strike.
Â
FIRE AT WILL: Though the team's forwards struggled to finish attempts on Friday, the team did get off a barrage of shots at the Carson-Newman net as the Lady Chargers recorded 20 shots – 14 of which were successfully placed on frame. The 14 shots on goal represent the highest total since the team fired 14 on Delta State on Oct. 22, 2010. Klein led the team on Friday with five shots and three that reached the target.
About the Opponent
LAST TIME OUT: Lincoln Memorial started the new year with a 3-0 win over Asbury on Friday to mark the 10th straight opening-day win for the Lady Railsplitters. All three goals in the victory came in a short span from the 24th minute to the 40th minute in the opening half of play. The shutout was shared by sophomore Kayla Stephens and freshman Kathryn Lundy as Stephens earned the start and turned away every shot she faced for the first 71 minutes of the contest.
Â
LEADING THE WAY: A trio of players – Olivia Thompson, Michelle Allen, and Rachael Vienneau – scored in the opener for LMU, and Nicole McKinney – who was third on the team in scoring a season ago – picked up a pair of assists while also firing a team-best six shots in the victory.
Series History
Lincoln Memorial owns an 8-2-1 advantage in the all-time series including a 2-1 decision in Harrogate, Tenn., a season ago. That contest was even at 1-1 until Savannah Pitt scored in the 86th minute to produce the win. The Lady Chargers last defeated LMU on Oct. 3, 2003, when Sunday's hosts won by a 1-0 score.
