HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville Department of Athletics is excited to announce that the lower bowl and ice suites at the Propst Arena at the Von Braun Center were sold out for this past weekend's series against Alaska Anchorage as the two nights drew a combined 6,218 patrons.
Â
Friday night's crowd saw 2,604 in attendance, while Saturday brought 3,614 downtown to cheer on the Chargers as part of Military Appreciation Weekend as UAH posted its highest attendance number for a weekend series since Nov. 2008.
Â
The big weekend at the turnstiles is indicative of the team's box office success this year as season ticket sales have skyrocketed to the highest total in the Division I era of Charger hockey.
Â
As part of a promotion-packed schedule, the first 500 kids in attendance at Saturday's game were given camouflage jerseys, and on that same night UAH set a new season-high in attendance with 3,618 fans.
Â
"The attendance and support over the weekend was fantastic. We have a loyal group of fans and we are continuing to build a bigger fan base with each home series," said Head Coach
Mike Corbett. "Our players and staff appreciate the support very much and we are hungry to reward our fans with more wins as we continue to build the UAH hockey program."
Â
Fans have two more opportunities to see the Chargers at home as the team plays host to Lake Superior State on Feb. 22-23 and Northern Michigan on Mar. 7-8.
Â
The weekend's premier corporate sponsors included: Crestwood Medical Center, Wells Fargo, AUSA, Lockheed Martin, Jerry Damson Honda/Acura, Torch Technologies, Huntsville International Airport and SportsMed.
