Breaux Stops 13 as Chargers Fall at West Florida

PENSACOLA, Fla. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's soccer team travelled to Pensacola on Friday night, dropping a 3-1 decision to host West Florida. The Chargers slip to 4-8 (3-5 Gulf South Conference) with the setback, while UWF improves to 7-4 (5-2 GSC).

West Florida built up a 2-0 lead at the half thanks to scores from Tricia Gould in the 28th minute and Kaitlyn Culotta in the 38th, but the Chargers would cut their deficit in half in the 68th as Sydnie Fiocca played a cross through the box to Sydney Pfankuch who buried for her first of the season.

With the goal, the freshman now has six points on the year as she also owns four assists.

Providing the Argos with an insurance goal, however, was Gould in the 74th to create the eventual 3-1 final.

West Florida owned a 29-5 edge in shots, but UAH keeper Larae Breaux was more than up to the challenge as she turned away 13 of the 16 shots that were on goal.

The 13 saves represents a season-high for the freshman from Lafayette, Louisiana, who previously reached double digits in saves with 11 against West Alabama on Sept. 21.

For the contest, the hosts also held an advantage in corners by a 6-2 margin.

UAH will return to action on Sunday when they travel to Mobile, Alabama, to face GSC newcomer Spring Hill. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
