MOBILE, Ala. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's soccer team romped to a 5-0 win on Sunday afternoon, defeating Spring Hill on the road. The Chargers improve to 5-8-0 (4-5-0 Gulf South Conference), while Spring Hill fell to 3-8-2 (1-7-2 GSC).
Â
UAH's top scorers led the way for the Chargers as both
Alexcia Alexander and
Khadijah Jannah scored a pair in the contest, and Jannah added an assist for good measure. Earning her first shutout of the season,
Larae Breaux made seven stops in goal for the Blue and White.
Â
The scoring started for the visiting side in the 25th minute when Jannah fed it to Alexander who scored what would end up being her team-leading third game-winning goal of the season, and the Chargers took a 2-0 lead to the half after
Marie Blunt headed in
Riley Ridgeway's corner in the 37th.
Â
The score was Blunt's second of the season.
Â
After 17 minutes of scoreless action to start the second half, Alexander would again find herself on the scoresheet as she buried her second of the afternoon and team-best ninth of the season to pad the UAH lead at 3-0 in the 62nd minute.
Â
Jannah then scored her pair, tallying goals in the 76th and 85th minutes to create the 5-0 final while giving herself seven goals on the year after the five-point day.
Â
Ridgeway also assisted on the first Jannah goal, giving her a team-best five assists on the season, and
Alex Petermann set-up the final Charger strike.
Â
The Chargers outshot Spring Hill by an 18-15 clip while also owning a wide 16-7 margin in shots that reached the target, and UAH also took seven corners compared to three for the hosts.
Â
UAH will return to action on Friday night when the Chargers return home. Kickoff against West Georgia is slated for 7 p.m. at Charger Park.
