Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Breaux Stops 14 as Chargers Fall 2-1 at Valdosta State

VALDOSTA, Ga. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's soccer team travelled to Valdosta State on Sunday afternoon, dropping a 2-1 decision to the Gulf South Conference leaders. UAH slips to 5-10-0 (4-7-0 GSC), while VSU improves to 8-5-1 (8-1-1 GSC).

The setback eliminates the Chargers from contention for the GSC Championships as UAH can now only tie Shorter in points, and the Hawks own the tiebreaker after winning the regular season meeting between the two teams.

Larae Breaux was terrific in goal for the Chargers, registering a season-high 14 saves, and 11 of the stops came in the first half as she kept her team in the contest by only allowing one goal in the opening period.

That score came from Abbi Edwards in the 21st minute, and Edwards was able to push another past Breaux in the 56th minute that provided the hosts with a 2-0 lead – an insurance goal that would prove necessary.

In the 82nd minute, Alexcia Alexander pulled UAH to within one as she beat the Valdosta State keeper on a close play in front, making the score 2-1 in favor of VSU and providing the freshman with her UAH-leading 10th goal of the season. Alexander finished the contest with three of UAH's five shots, and each of her attempts ended up on goal.

Valdosta State owned a significant advantage in shots, taking 23 to UAH's five, and the Lady Blazers also owned an 8-3 edge in corners.

UAH will return to Huntsville for the final two contests of the season, hosting Carson-Newman on Wednesday at 4 p.m. before welcoming Lee on Sunday, Nov. 2, at 1 p.m.
