HIGHLIGHTSHUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team topped Montevallo on Saturday evening at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall by a final score of 67-62 in the nonconference tilt. The Chargers improve to 2-2, while the Falcons fall to 0-4 on the season.

Shannon Steinert led the Chargers offense with a career-high 27 points, including a game-high four 3-pointers made. Steinert shot 10-for-17 from the field and 4-for-5 from long range, adding seven rebounds and three steals in 38 minutes on the floor.
Montevallo controlled the pace at the outset of the contest, as the Falcons owned a 15-6 lead through the first six minutes of play. UAH battled throughout the half to get close to Montevallo, eventually cutting the Falcons' lead to 34-28 heading into halftime.
The Chargers jumped out for a 10-point run to take a 40-38 advantage over the Falcons in the opening eight minutes of the second half. UAH led by as much as 12 during the second half and did not give up the advantage in the period.
UAH had a good deal of success from close range in the second half, totaling 16 points in the paint compared to Montevallo's two. Steinert was 2-for-2 on 3-pointers to lead UAH with 10 points in the second half, followed by
Halle Jarnagin with eight points.
The Chargers excelled on rebounding overall on Saturday night, grabbing 38 boards compared to the Falcons' 29.
Jasmyne Reeves, Jarnagin and Steinert each had seven rebounds apiece to lead the way for UAH.
The next action for UAH is on Tuesday night when Hiwassee comes to Kelly Court at Spragins Hall for a midweek, nonconference matchup. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
