HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville (16-12, 10-10 GSC) volleyball team clinched the sixth seed in the Gulf South Conference Tournament with a four-set victory over West Alabama (9-20, 7-12 GSC) on Thursday at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall.
The Chargers stumbled out of the gate as West Alabama won the first set by a score of 25-19. Junior 
Haley Snyder swung an impressive .800 and totaled four kills, despite going down a set early.
UAH bounced back to take the second set, 26-24. West Alabama battled late with consecutive points to tie the frame at 24-24. The Chargers rallied for back-to-back scores on a kill by Snyder and a service ace by 
Ashton Baker.
The Chargers backed up the second-set victory with a convincing 25-16 win in the third, thanks in part to seven kills from both 
Anna Claire Johnson and Snyder in the stanza.
The fourth set proved to be a back-and-forth affair until UAH erupted for a late five-point run to take a 24-21 lead. West Alabama added one point on a Johnson service error before Snyder ended the Tigers chances with a solo block.
Baker shined on Senior Night in her final home game at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall, totaling a double-double with 49 assists and 13 digs. The Chargers attacking core held strong as 
Olivia Bauman, Johnson and Snyder completed 14-kill nights. UAH swung .261 as a team on Thursday night.
With the clinching of the sixth seed in the GSC Tournament, the Chargers look ahead to Nov. 11 when the squad will be pitted against the third seed out of the conference. League matches on Friday and Saturday will definitively determine the Chargers opponent in the opening match of the tournament.
