UAH Earns Strong Road Win at West Georgia

CARROLLTON, Ga. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team picked up a strong road win on Sunday, defeating host West Georgia 69-55. The Chargers improve to 5-5 (2-2 GSC), while West Georgia slips to 7-2 (2-1 GSC).

Halle Jarnagin led the Chargers as she scored a career-high 25 points on the strength of a strong 7-of-9 showing from the field, and for good measure, she also dished out a game-best seven assists. She was joined in double figures by Josi Saunders who scored 12 as she shot 5-for-6 from the floor.

The hosts jumped out to a quick lead, building up an early five-point advantage, but the Chargers would control play through much of the remainder of the opening 20 minutes, building up a 12-point advantage at 33-21 by the halftime break.

The Chargers shot a strong 50 percent in the half, including a blistering 4-for-5 from 3-point land.

Jarnagin was particularly strong in the second half, scoring 18 of her points in the period while allowing UAH to build up as much as a 19-point lead in the contest. West Georgia would eventually whittle the Charger advantage down to 11 by the 2:02 mark of the second half, but Caroline Dodd nailed one of her three 3-pointers with just under a minute left in the game to effectively seal the contest.

For the contest, UAH shot 51.1 percent overall and 53.8 percent from beyond the arc, and the team put together a strong defensive effort that limited the Wolves to shoot just 33.3 percent from the field. The Chargers forced UWG to commit 21 turnovers, and the team converted those miscues into 25 points.

West Georgia did win the battle on the glass, outrebounding the Chargers by a 40-24 margin, and UWG was led on the day offensively by Taylor Beverly who scored 13 points.

The Chargers will continue play on the road on Thursday when the team travels to Shorter. Tip-off in Rome, Georgia, is slated for 5 p.m. CST.
