CLEVELAND, Tenn. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team went on the road in the calendar year's final game and picked up a 70-64 win at Lee. The Chargers move to 6-6 (3-3 Gulf South Conference) with the triumph, while Lee slips to 6-3 (3-3 GSC).

Four Chargers scored in double figures for the Chargers, led by
Shannon Steinert's 16 as she hit three triples, and that performance from beyond the arc was matched by
Josi Saunders who had 14.
Juanice Newton and
Loren Foster rounded out the contingent of double-digit performers as both has 10 in the contest.

Lee scored the first bucket of the game, but a 22-7 run for the Chargers provided the team with a 22-9 lead by the 11:17 mark of the first half.

The visitors continued to lead through the rest of the stanza, hitting eight 3-pointers, including three from Saunders who scored 12 of her points in the opening 20 minutes, and the squad was also strong defensively as Lee hit just 29.6 percent of their attempts from the field as UAH built up a 42-25 advantage by the halftime break.

In the second half, Lee was able to narrow the deficit and pulled into a 56-56 tie with 5:11 left in the contest, but UAH outscored the Flames 14-8 down the stretch – including a clutch 3 from
Dina Saunders after Lee had pulled back within two with just over a minute left – to secure the victory.

For the contest, UAH shot 40.4 percent from the field and connected on 43.3 percent of its attempts from downtown as the team finished the day with 13 successful 3-pointers. Lee shot 31.1 percent overall and just 16.7 percent from beyond the arc.

The Flames did win the battle on the glass, outrebounding the Chargers 41-28 behind Christina Johnson's double-double that featured 10 points and 11 boards. Emileigh Swafford's 17 points led all scorers in the game.

The Chargers will now be off for Christmas and will return to action in 2015 when Mississippi College visits Kelly Court at Spragins Hall on Saturday, Jan. 2, at 2 p.m.
