PHOTO GALLERYHUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team routed Mississippi College by a 78-60 score on Saturday afternoon in a Gulf South Conference matchup at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall for the first win of 2015. UAH improves to 7-6 (4-3 GSC), while MC drops to 6-5 (2-5 GSC).
Junior
Josi Saunders shined in the victory on Saturday, posting a team-high 21 points and was 7-for-13 from the floor. Saunders added four boards, four assists and one block in 38 minutes on the court.
The Chargers offense was immediately successful in the conference matchup as the squad jumped out to a 22-9 lead with 11 minutes remaining in the half. MC battled back after the midway point of the half and was able to cut the UAH advantage to 34-28 heading into the break.
Halle Jarnagin was the star of the first half for the Blue and White registering 13 points with five rebounds and an assist. The junior went on to finish with 15 total points for her ninth double-digit point total of the 2014-15 campaign.
The Choctaws remained within 10 points of the Chargers for the majority of the second half, until UAH raced to a 7-0 run in the final 90 seconds of the game to make it a 78-60 final.
Saunders did the majority of her damage to MC in the second half shooting 4-for-8 from field goal range and 2-for-5 from long range. Both
Dina Saunders and
Jasmyne Reeves added nine points apiece in the second half.
Overall on Saturday, UAH shot 49 percent from the floor while shooting at a 40 percent clip on 3-pointers. The Chargers also never trailed in the conference matchup.
UAH will look ahead to another conference foe when Delta State visits the Rocket City for a game on Monday at 5:30 at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall.
