HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball squad dropped a Monday Gulf South Conference matchup against Delta State by a final score of 67-49 at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall. UAH falls to 7-7 (4-4 GSC), while DSU improves to 6-6 (4-4 GSC).
Junior 
Josi Saunders led the Chargers scoring effort for the second straight contest with a team-high 14 points to go along with four rebounds, an assist and one block. The Huntsville native has now scored double-digit points in three consecutive games.
Despite the game being tightly contested through the midway point of the first half, Delta State held a five point advantage at 18-13. The Lady Statesmen began to control the pace throughout the rest of the frame and carried a 38-24 lead into the break.
Delta State played well after halftime and relied upon successful 3-point shooting to put UAH away in the Monday night matchup, as the Lady Statesmen shot 4-for-8 from beyond the arc in the second half. Toya Collins led all scorers in the period with eight points and was 2-for-2 on 3-pointers.
Junior 
Halle Jarnagin filled up the stat sheet with eight points, seven rebounds and four assists in her team-high 33 minutes on the floor. Jarnagin added three steals for the defense which is the third time the Brentwood, Tennessee native has achieved the mark.
Overall, the Blue and White shot 39 percent from the floor and 33 percent from beyond the arc against Delta State.
The Chargers are on the road for the following two GSC matchups, beginning on Saturday at Union at 2 p.m. The game after Union is scheduled for Monday at 5 p.m. in Memphis, Tennessee to take on Christian Brothers.
