About the Chargers

  • No. 9 UAH opens Gulf South Conference play this weekend with a trip to West Georgia in the team's first foray into the new conference schedule of three-game weekend sets. The Chargers begin league play with high expectations as the squad was picked by the league's head coaches to win the conference title.
  • The Chargers sit at a perfect 7-0 on the year after sweeping the Chillout last weekend with six wins. The weekend included wins over a pair of nationally-ranked opponents (Indianapolis and North Georgia) as the team was impressive offensively, running its season average to seven runs per game by not scoring fewer than six in a contest at the tournament.
  • Newcomers Emily Glover and Taylor Doriety were impressive in the circle at the Chillout as Glover went 3-0 with a 1.00 ERA, while Doriety registered a 1.97 ERA to go along with a pair of wins. Glover owns a team-best 12 strikeouts on the season, and her opponents batting average against of .162 is also the top number on the team.
  • Having already collected five on the season, senior Mary Kelley now has 64 career doubles to sit just one off of the UAH and GSC career record of 65 that is held by Melanie Carter. Kelley is batting .476 through the first seven games, driving in a team-high 11 runs while also scoring four times.

About the Opponent

  • West Georgia opened the season with a split at UNC Pembroke before travelling to Huntsville for the Chillout where the Wolves were an impressive 5-1 including a 10-9 win over nationally-ranked North Georgia.
  • Through the first eight games, Nicole Yancey once again leads West Georgia as the Preseason All-Gulf South Conference is batting .458 with 11 hits, 12 runs, and 12 RBI. She is also tied for the GSC lead in homers as she already has four on the season.
  • The UWG pitching staff owns a 2.38 ERA with Courtney Gunby's 2.16 leading the way. With 19.0 innings pitched, Meagan Stover has received the most work in the circle for the Wolves, striking out 13 while allowing just six earned runs, and Megan Roberts has a team-best 18 strikeouts in 14.1 innings of work.

Series History

  • UAH owns a 60-6 advantage in the all-time series with West Georgia including a perfect 4-0 performance against the Wolves a season ago.
  • Last year in Carrollton, Mary Kelley collected six hits in the two-game set, aiding UAH in picking up wins of 10-0 and 12-2. The Mobile, Ala., native also registered six RBI in the doubleheader.
