Tennis Falls to Nationally-Ranked West Florida

HUNTSVILLE | The UAH men's and women's tennis teams fell in a pair of 9-0 decisions Sunday to two of the top-ranked teams in the country, as the men fell to No. 3 West Florida while the women also fell to nationally-ranked West Florida (7th).

The Chargers start the season 0-1 and 0-1 in conference play on the men's side, while the women slip to 1-1 overall and 1-1 in the GSC.

The Lady Chargers displayed a valiant effort in doubles play despite dropping all three matches.  

The duo of Maria Lawton and Aude Rappaz would go up 5-2 over Nina Bubelova and Fernanda Amaral before scoring six of the next seven points to take claim the match at No. 3 doubles.

At No. 2 doubles, Katie Bryant and Jessica Groupierre took their match into a tiebreak before falling 9-8 to Katarina Dikosavljevic and Frasesca Franchin.

UWF rode its momentum into singles completion, claiming all six matches. Rappaz would take her match into a tiebreak before dropping the third set 10-6.

On the men's side, Nestor Perez was the only Charger to take his match into a third set. Perez recorded a 6-1 victory in the second set to force a tie break with Kenny Brasil. However, Perez fell in the third set 10-8 in a tightly contested match.

Both teams will look to bounce back when they square off against conference-foe West Alabama on Wednesday in Huntsville. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
