HUNTSVILLE | The UAH men's and women's tennis teams grabbed a pair of 7-0 wins against Division I opponent Alabama A&M Friday afternoon. The men picked up their first victory of the year and move to 1-2 overall while the women improve to 2-2.
The men dominated from start to finish as the tandem of
Jose Soto and
Nestor Perez defeated Dominique Alexander and Carlos Salas 8-3 at No. 1 doubles to start the day while
Bruno Medeiros and
Ian Wisener captured an 8-0 victory over Farai Charidza and Justin Abston at the No. 2 in the lineup.
Fredrik Graaner kept the momentum going for the Chargers with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Alexander and
Bruno Medeiros recorded a shutout victory over Salas.
Freshmen teammates
Pablo Herrero and
Harrison Stone recorded their first collegiate wins as well with Herrero earning a 6-1, 6-0 victory and Stone with a straight-set victory.
On the women's side,
Marleen Gort and
Aniek Remmerswaal earned an 8-1 victory at No. 1 doubles over Jessica Taylor and Orianna Rodriguez as
Jessica Groupierre and
Katie Bryant tallied an 8-0 win against Leslie Ekpe and Khyana Price to give UAH two quick points.
In singles, Gort, Remmerswaal,
Aude Rappaz and
Lina Carvajal all posted victories to ensure the victory for the Lady Chargers.
Both teams return to action when both teams make the trip to Memphis, Tenn.,for a GSC affair with Christian Brothers on Monday at 1 p.m.
