About the Chargers
- UAH will look to bounce back from its first pair of losses as the Chargers dropped a doubleheader to West Georgia in the first Gulf South Conference series of the season last weekend. Despite the 6-4 and 6-5 setbacks, the Chargers moved up in the national rankings from ninth to third after the team started the year 8-0 with two wins over nationally-ranked opponents.
- Through last play last weekend, the Chargers featured the second-best batting average in the GSC (.314) and the best team pitching staff ERA (1.79) in the league. UAH has also been strong defensively as its .969 fielding percentage ranks second in the conference.
- Mary Kelley is off to a terrific start at the plate, leading the GSC with a .455 average on the strength of a conference-best seven doubles. Dating back to last season, Kelley has hit safely in 17 straight contests, just four off of the program record of 21 set by Kelli Long in the 2009 season.
- Off to a strong start in the circle, Whitney Toler features an ERA of just 0.55 three games into her senior season. She owns a 2-0 record, giving up just 11 hits and striking out eight in 16.1 innings of work. Opponents are hitting just .177 off of the right-handed pitcher.
About the Opponent
- Lee heads to UAH with a 5-6 overall record on the season after dropping its previous two contests to North Georgia. The Flames are 2-1 on the road after taking 2-of-3 from Union last weekend.
- Senior catcher Meg Macias leads the team with a .435 batting average while also belting a team-best three homers. Also doing damage at the dish is Ana Coscorrosa who leads the team in hits (13), RBI (11), and doubles (four).
- Annabeth Pruett leads a Lee pitching staff that has an overall era of 4.12 as Pruett owns an ERA of 3.07. The freshman is 2-1 this season with two complete games in five starts, and she has struck out 15 batters.
Series History
- This weekend's contests will mark the first-ever between UAH and Lee. The Flames are transitioning into fulltime membership in Division II and the GSC, and though games against the school count in the GSC standings, the Flames are not eligible for the postseason.
