HUNTSVILLE | The third-ranked University of Alabama in Huntsville softball team ensured itself a series victory in its first Gulf South Conference home series of the year as it swept visiting Lee by scores of 8-1 and 9-4 on Saturday afternoon at Charger Park. The wins improve UAH to 10-2 (3-2 GSC), while Lee slips to 5-8 (2-3 GSC).

Tyler Harrison was especially impressive in the doubleheader, going a combined 5-for-6 at the plate including two doubles while driving in six runs. Also strong at the dish was Macie Couey who was 4-for-7 with a triple and the team's first homer of the season.

The two teams will wrap up the series Sunday at Charger Park with the first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.

UAH 8, Lee 1 (Game One)
The big inning was the story of the day for the Chargers, and the first crooked number of the afternoon came in the bottom of the second.

Victoria Frith started the scoring as her fielder's choice to second with the bases loaded drove in Mallory McNeal, and Couey cleaned up the bags with her third triple of the year, plating Lauren Stavinoga and Frith to make it 3-0.

After a scoreless third, Lee would score its lone run of the contest in the fourth, but UAH would answer with an even bigger inning than its second frame.

An error allowed the first run of the inning to score as Brianna Sullivan scampered home when Frith reached on an error by the Lee third baseman, and after Couey singled and Mary Kelley walked to pack the bags full of Chargers, Harrison collected three RBI with one swing of the bat as she doubled into the gap in right-center to give UAH a 7-1 lead.

Couey tacked onto the lead and produced the 8-1 final when she homered to lead off the sixth.

Picking up her third win, Whitney Toler (3-0) was once again magnificent for the Chargers as she tossed 5.2 innings, surrendering just three hits and the one run while striking out four and walking none. Kimberly Jack finished the game in the circle for UAH as she allowed only a hit in 1.1 innings.

UAH outhit the Flames by an 8-4 margin as Sullivan had a pair of hits to join Harrison's two and Couey's three.

UAH 9, Lee 4 (Game Two)
The first big frame of the nightcap was produced by the visitors as Lee crossed the plate three times to grab an early 3-0 lead, but Harrison would cut UAH's deficit to two quickly as she singled into center in the bottom half of the inning to score Frith and make it 3-1.

A pair of scoreless innings followed before the Chargers would again get on the board.

The four-run fourth inning included an infield single off the bat of Frith that scored Haley Thompson to make it a one-run game, and the hosts knotted the affair when Couey drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 3-3. Putting UAH in front for the first time in the game, Kelley followed up the free pass with a single into center that scored Frith and Sullivan to create a 5-3 advantage.

An unearned run in the top of the fifth pulled Lee back within one, but another double – this time driving in two runs – from Harrison made it 7-4, and Thompson drove in a pair of additional runs to round out a four-run sixth for the Chargers as the game went into the seventh with UAH leading 9-4.

Emily Glover (4-1) faced a batter in the frame before giving way to Jack as the starter scattered eight hits across six innings, allowing four runs of which only two were earned. The Flames would make things interesting as they collected a pair of hits off of Jack before she shut the door without allowing a run.

For the contest, UAH collected 12 hits as Thompson, Kelley and Frith all had two to go along with a three-hit showing from Harrison, and the visitors registered 10.
