MEMPHIS, Tenn. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's and women's tennis teams convincingly defeated Christian Brothers on the road Monday afternoon. The men recorded an 8-1 decision to improve to 2-2 on the year and 1-2 in the GSC while the women's 9-0 victory puts them over .500 at 3-2 overall and 2-2 in conference play.
The Lady Chargers got off to a fast start in doubles play as the tandem of
Marleen Gort and
Aniek Remmerswaal defeated Carley Lane and Rebecca Johnston 8-0 at the No. 1 spot and the duo of
Katie Bryant and Jessica Grouppiere earned an 8-0 win over Tyler Napier and Lauren Harrett at the number two position.
UAH kept the strong momentum going into singles play with Gort picking up a 6-0,6-0 victory over Lane as the No.1 in the lineup while Groupierre defeated her counterpart 6-1,6-2 as the No. 2.
Aude Rappaz and Remmerswaal completed the shutout victory for UAH as both earned 6-0,6-0 wins.
On the men's side, the UAH ran away with the match early as the No. 1 pairing of
Jose Soto and
Nestor Perez won 8-4 while
Fredrik Graaner and
Ian Wisener also won their match 8-4 at the No.2 spot in doubles play.
Soto then went on to win 6-3, 6-0 as the No. 1 in singles and Perez captured a 6-1, 6-0 victory as the No.2 in the lineup.
Senior
Bruno Medeiros posted a straight-set victory at the No. 4 position and
Pablo Herrero also recorded a 6-0, 6-0 victory as the No. 5.
Both teams will look to continue their strong play on Wednesday when they make the trip to Harrogate, Tenn., for a 2 p.m. match with Lincoln Memorial
