UAH Prepared to Host Annual Chillout Tournament

CHILLOUT WEBSITE
HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville softball program will host its annual Charger Chillout this weekend, holding the event for the first time in Huntsville at the Kiwanis Sportsplex.

The showcase of Division II softball features 22 teams – including eight that appeared in the NCAA tournament last year and three that are ranked in the NFCA Top 25. Five Gulf South Conference schools will also be playing this weekend.

Also of note this weekend among the coaching staffs visiting for the tournament, former Charger great Sage Woodham will return to Huntsville as the assistant coach at North Alabama, and softball legend and Olympic gold medalist Cat Osterman is on the staff at Saint Edward's.

A total of 62 games will be played across six fields during the three-day event.

UAH's slate of games is as follows:

Friday, Feb. 7 | 1 p.m. | Bellarmine | Live Stats
Friday, Feb. 7 | 3 p.m. | Ohio Dominican | Live Stats
Saturday, Feb. 8 | 12 p.m. | Saint Edward's | Live Stats
Saturday, Feb. 8 | 2 p.m. | Indianapolis | Live Stats
Sunday, Feb. 9 | 1 p.m. | Saint Joseph's | Live Stats
Sunday, Feb. 9 | 3 p.m. | North Georgia | Live Stats

The Chargers enter the weekend with just one contest in the books as they defeated Young Harris 7-1 on a rain-shortened opening day on Sunday.

UAH's 3-4-5 positions in the lineup were particularly impressive in the contest as the trio of Macie Couey, Mary Kelley, and Kaitlyn Bannister combined to go 6-for-9 at the plate while driving in all seven runs for the Chargers.

Head coach Les Stuedeman was able to use three of her pitchers in the contest as starter Whitney Toler scattered five hits over 3.1 innings, Tyler Harrison gave up only one hit and a run in 1.2 innings of work, and Kimberly Jack completed the game with a scoreless pair of innings.
