JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's and women's tennis teams continued their success on the road while recording a sweep at Carson-Newman Tuesday afternoon. The men move to 6-3 with the 7-2 victory while the women's thrilling 5-4 win that came during the final match of the day moves them to 6-4.
Senior
Lina Carvajal came back from a 3-0 deficit in the second set to force a third set to capture the clinching point and the victory for the Lady Chargers.
The duo of
Jessica Groupierre and
Katie Bryant registered an 8-5 decision at the No. 1 doubles against Stefy Sand and Breanna Tremblay before
Marleen Gort and
Aniek Remmerswaal posted an 8-3 victory as the No. 2 doubles to give UAH a quick 2-0 lead.
UAH went ahead 4-1 during singles play thanks to Gort's 6-2, 6-2 win as the No. 1 in the lineup over Patricia Guerreiro, and Groupierre capped off her day with a hard fought 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 victory as the No. 2.
Carson-Newman would come back to tie the match 4-4 after Remmerswaal fell 6-3, 7-5 as the No. 3, while senior
Maria Lawton displayed a valiant effort in her three-set defeat at the No. 4 spot, and
Aude Rappaz dropped a 6-1, 6-4 decision before Carvajal's come from behind victory.
On the men's side,
Jose Soto and
Nestor Perez notched an 8-4 victory at No. 1 doubles over Austin Mackay and Stefano Daza before the duo of
Fredrik Graaner and
Harrison Stone broke a 1-1 tie heading into singles play with the 8-3 decision against Lee Presson and Daniel Douglas.
The Chargers dominated singles play taking five of the six matches en route to capturing the victory. Soto registered a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Juan Perez as the No. 1 in the linuep, while Perez recorded a 6-4, 7-5 win at the No. 3 spot.
Bruno Medeiros continued the momentum for the Chargers with a straight-set victory as the No. 4, and
Pablo Herrero posted a 6-1, 1-0 victory before Stone tallied UAH's seventh point with the 6-1, 6-1 defeat.
Both squads will return to action on Saturday at 1 p.m. for a home match against Indianapolis.
