Chargers Suffer 5-3 Setback to Nationally-Ranked Indy

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's and women's tennis teams both fell 5-3 to nationally-ranked Indianapolis Saturday afternoon. The setback puts the men at 6-4 overall on the year while the woman fall to 6-5.

Indy would take a 2-1 lead going into singles competition while the tandem of Katie Bryant and Jessica Groupierre registered their ninth straight win in doubles play and recorded the only point in doubles play with a hard fought 9-7 victory at No. 2 Doubles after Marleen Gort and Aniek Remmerswaal put forth a valiant effort despite the 9-7 setback as the No. 1 pairing.

The Lady Chargers picked up two quick points in singles play to take a 3-2 lead thanks to Gort's 6-2, 6-3 victory against Allie Smith at the No. 1 spot followed by Groupierre's straight-set victory as the No. 2 against Maria Mendes.

UAH looked to keep the momentum going, however, Indy would take the next three matches to earn the victory.

On the men's side, the duo Bruno Medeiros and Pablo Herrero claimed the lone point for the Chargers during doubles competition with an 8-6 decision against Fausto Cordova and Marco Torres the as the No. 2 pairing.

The Chargers captured two of the first three singles matches with Jose Soto recording a 6-2, 6-4 win as the No. 1 in the lineup before Nestor Perez convincingly defeated Torres 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 3 spot to tie the match 3-3.

That would be the final points UAH would register as Indy would go on to win the last two matches to pick up the victory.

Both teams look to bounce back when they make the trek to Cleveland, Miss., for a GSC affair with Delta State at 2 p.m.
