VALDOSTA, Ga. | The UAH men's and women's tennis teams dropped a pair of 7-2 decisions to a tough Valdosta State squad Sunday afternoon. The setback pushes the men to 3-3 overall and 1-3 in conference play while the women slip to 4-3 on the season and 2-3 in the GSC.
Jose Soto played a part in the Chargers' two points as the junior would earn victories in singles and doubles competition, while paired with
Nestor Perez at No. 1 doubles, the duo recorded a hard fought 9-8 victory over Fransisco Yim Kim and Mario Navarro Bayo.
UAH would tie the match 2-2 thanks to Soto registering a 6-1, 6-3 decision over Yim Kim as the No. 1 in the lineup, although, the Blazers went on to take the next five singles matches to pick up the win.
On the women's side, VSU took two out of the three doubles matches before heading into singles play with the tandem of
Katie Bryant and
Jessica Groupierre notching the Lady Chargers' first point of the afternoon at No. 2 doubles.
With VSU grabbing the first singles match, Groupierre continued her strong play to pull UAH to within one point, 3-2, with a 7-5, 6-1 win at the No. 2 spot over Jennifer Rink. That would be the last point the Lady Chargers would record, however, as VSU went on to claim the next four matches to capture the victory.
Both teams will wrap up their four-game road trip when they head to Cleveland, Tenn., on Wednesday for a 2 p.m. affair with the Lee Flames.
