CLEVELAND, Miss. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's tennis team improved to 7-5 on the season and 4-4 in conference play with a 7-2 victory at Delta State on Friday and the men fell to 6-5 overall and 3-4 in GSC competition with the 6-3 setback.
The Lady Chargers took two of the three doubles matches to head into singles play with a 2-1 lead as the tandem of
Katie Bryant and
Jessica Groupierre registered their tenth-straight win with the 8-5 victory as the No. 2 pairing, while the duo of
Lina Carvajal and
Aude Rappaz gave UAH the lead with a 8-5 decision at No. 3 doubles.
UAH dominated singles play as the Lady Chargers notched straight-set victories in five of the six matches. Freshman
Marleen Gort convincingly defeated her counterpart 6-1, 6-0 as the No. 1 in the lineup and Groupierre continued her strong play with the 6-1, 6-1 win at the two spot.
Freshman
Aniek Remmerswaal continued the strong momentum for UAH with the 6-3, 6-2 decision at the No. 3, while Rappaz picked up another point for the Lady Chargers with a straight-set victory as the No. 4 in the lineup and Carvajal recorded UAH's seventh point and final point of the day.
On the men's side, the Chargers would not get their first point until singles play as
Jose Soto, the region's eighth-ranked player, captured a 6-3, 6-3 victory as the No. 1 in the lineup while
Nestor Perez came back from a one-set deficit to win at the No. 3 spot.
Freshman
Harrison Stone tallied the Chargers' final point as Stone recorded the victory 6-2, 7-5 as the No. 6 in the lineup.
Both squads will have the week off before Shorter visits the Rocket City for the Chargers' final home game of the season on Wednesday, April 3rd for the 1 p.m. match.
