No. 2 Chargers Pick Up Sweep at Miles

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The No. 2 University of Alabama in Huntsville softball team travelled to Miles on Tuesday and remained perfect in non-conference play by sweeping the day with victories of 7-0 and 9-3. The Chargers improve to 23-5 on the season, while Miles slips to 7-26.
 
UAH is now 13-0 in non-conference action.
 
The Chargers belted four home runs on the day, doubling the total of homers the team had hit entering the day, and one of those bombs belonged to Emily Glover who recorded her first collegiate long fly in the nightcap while Mary Kelley homered twice on the day.
 
Glover was also strong in the circle in the second contest as she registered her first career save by tossing 2.1 perfect innings including a frame in which she struck out the side. She finished the day 4-for-7 at the plate with a double, the homer, two RBI, and two runs scored.
 
Taylor Doriety (6-1) earned the victory in the circle for UAH in the day's first game as she gave up just two hits in five innings while striking out two and not allowing a walk. Kimberly Jack then entered the game and pitched the final two innings, posting a pair of perfect frames.
 
The Chargers started the scoring in the first with a pair of runs as Brianna Sullivan and Tyler Harrison both drove in runs in the inning, and UAH added three more runs in the fourth when Kaitlyn Bannister led off the inning with her second homer of the season, Emily Glover scored on a Miles error, and Sullivan drove in an additional run making it a 5-0 lead for the guests.
 
Kelley produced the 7-0 final by hitting her first homer of the season – a two-run jack in the top of the seventh.
 
UAH outhit Miles in the contest by a 10-2 margin with Frith, Glover and Nicole Bobrowski recording a pair in the game.
 
In the second game, Miles jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first, but the Chargers would respond with a run in the second as Mallory McNeal stole home as part of a double steal. UAH finished the contest with five stolen bases to total eight on the day and 115 on the season.
 
After Jack (4-1) threw a scoreless second, UAH took the lead in the affair with a four-run third that included a leadoff homer by Kelley, the two-run bomb from Glover, and an RBI groundout from McNeal. UAH would add another four-run inning in the sixth after Miles scored a run in the fifth with a Harrison double and a Macie Couey base hit producing the runs.
 
Jack went 3.2 innings in the game, scattering five hits and giving up a run while striking out a pair in getting the victory. Glover relieved her and went the final 2.1 frames to earn the save.
 
UAH finished the nightcap with 14 hits while Miles collected nine. The top three positions in the UAH lineup were particularly strong, earning seven of the hits with Kelley having a three-hit performance and Frith and Harrison both registering two, and Glover also recorded a pair of hits in the game.
