About the Chargers

  • The Chargers will host North Alabama this weekend for a critical Gulf South Conference series, entering the weekend at 23-5 (10-5 GSC). Shorter – who is not eligible for the postseason – sits on top of the GSC standings at 12-4, but UNA, Valdosta State and UAH are all close behind as all three teams have five GSC losses.
  • Owners of a 10-1 mark at Charger Park, UAH has been impressive at home this season. The team has scored at least six runs in each contest en route to an average of 8.3 runs per game. UAH is hitting .393 at home with Tyler Harrison's .545 leading the way.
  • Though not a team designed to be a power-hitting squad, the Chargers were still excited to see the ball fly out of the park in Tuesday's non-conference doubleheader at Miles. UAH doubled its previous output for homers on the season as the team homered four times with Mary Kelley (twice), Kaitlyn Bannister, and Emily Glover all going yard.
  • The Charger pitching staff continues to rank as one of the tops in the league as UAH places second in the league in team ERA, second in fewest hits allowed, and third in opponent's batting average. The staff as a whole also is the best in the league in limiting walks as UAH has only issued 29 walks as none of the five pitchers used this season have reached double figures in free passes.

About the Opponent

  • The Lions visit the Rocket City featuring a 28-8 (15-5 GSC) record, and UNA has posted a perfect 8-0 mark on the road. The team had been in the national rankings until falling out this week after dropping two of three to Union last weekend in Florence.
  • UNA is solid offensive, hitting .322 as a team with Chloe Wolf's .370 averaging leading a group of eight players who are hitting at least .300 on the season. Shelby Goodman's 32 RBI leads the team, while Chelsea Sowers paces UNA with nine homers and 32 runs scored.
  • The squad features a team ERA that is a GSC-best 1.71. Hillary Carpenter is 13-4 on the season with a 1.38 ERA, while BreeAnna Blevins owns a 14-4 mark, a 1.92 ERA, and a conference-leading 134 strikeouts.

Series History

  • UAH enters the weekend with a 58-15 advantage in the all-time series with North Alabama, and the 58 wins represent the second-highest total for the Chargers against an opponent. Last season the Chargers took four of five meetings including a home sweep on the regular season's final day that provided UAH with the regular season GSC title.
