The Chargers (5-5, 3-3 GSC) weren't able to capitalize early on offense against the Hawks (8-2, 6-0 GSC), falling into a 1-0 hole after the first set. Despite the first-set loss, UAH maintained a close margin with Shorter in the beginning of the contest trailing by as little as three points at a 12-9 score.

The Hawks then gained momentum with the 12-9 lead and went on to score in nine of the following 11 volleys. UAH made a late comeback on a four-point run, but Shorter completed the win in set one, 25-16.

UAH rebounded after the first set loss in the ensuing set, holding a 13-12 lead midway through the second stanza. The majority of the set was a back-and-forth affair, until the Chargers pulled away with a six-point run to take a 20-15 lead. UAH evened the match score at 1-1 with a win in the second set, 25-21, on back-to-back scores.

Shorter came out strong in the third frame as they jumped out to a 9-1 advantage early in the set. UAH climbed back into the set registering points on seven of the ensuing nine volleys to bring the score to 11-8. With the Chargers within three at a 14-11 score, the Hawks went on to take six of the next eight points for a 20-13 advantage. UAH made it close at the end bringing the score to 24-20, but the Hawks went on to take the 2-1 advantage with a final score of 25-20.

The fourth set was tightly competitive at the outset of the frame with both teams trading points to a 7-7 tie. Shorter followed with a three-point rally, putting UAH in a 10-7 deficit. The Hawks held the lead for the rest of the match, and completed the four-set victory with a 25-21 in the fourth and final frame.
