HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville volleyball team dropped Saturday's Gulf South Conference matchup to Valdosta State in five sets (25-22. 25-21, 23-25, 17-25, 9-15) at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall.

The Chargers (6-6, 4-4 GSC) stormed out of the gate to a 2-0 match score against the Blazers (7-3, 4-3 GSC) through the first two sets on Saturday afternoon. Junior
Olivia Bauman and freshman
Anna Claire Johnson paced the Chargers offense with seven kills apiece. Freshman
Jordan Morrison also chipped in six kills and a .455 hitting percentage through the two frames.

Valdosta State began its comeback in the third set, taking a narrow 25-23 win in the stanza. The Chargers trailed for much of the set, but were able to rebound to tie the it at 20-20 following a four-point rally that included two kills by
Haley Snyder. The Blazers went on to win by recording three of the final four points of the set.

The Blazers were able to continue building momentum heading into the fourth set and led the majority of the frame. UAH waged a late comeback during the set scoring three consecutive points in the stanza to bring the score to 24-17, but the Blazers evened the match in the end on an attacking error by Morrison.

Valdosta State completed the match win in the fifth set, 15-9. UAH played the Blazers to within two points midway through the set. However, VSU's offense broke through scoring six of the final seven points for the win.

Freshman
Kirsten Giles posted a career-high 51 assists during the match while also completing a double-double with a team-high 18 digs. Bauman finished the match with a match-high 19 kills, with Johnson totaling her second straight double-double with 15 kills and 12 digs.

The Chargers next match will be at home on Tuesday against Lee, which is slated to begin at 7 p.m.Â
