MEMPHIS | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team hung on for a road win in conference play on Monday night, defeating host Christian Brothers by a 51-48 score. The Chargers improve to 8-8 (5-5 Gulf South Conference) with the win, while CBU slips to 5-11 (3-7 GSC).

Chandler Elder led the way for the Blue and White, scoring a season-best 14 points after recording double-figures for the first time against Union on Saturday with 11. The freshman was a strong 6-for-9 from the field, and she added a pair of rebounds and two steals for good measure.

Dina Saunders who was 4-for-8 for 11 points.

The Chargers led for much of the contest, but the team had to weather a late storm as CBU grabbed the advantage on a pair of occasions and cut UAH's lead to just one at 46-45 with 2:27 left in the contest. At that point, Elder hit a 3-pointer with 1:20 remaining to put the visitors in front by a more comfortable four points en route to the victory.

UAH built up as much as a 15-point advantage in the first half, jumping out to a 23-8 lead at the 7:12 mark of the period, and though the Chargers connected on 58.8 percent of its attempts from the floor and had eight different players scored, Christian Brothers was able to capitalize on 17 turnovers to pull within three at 29-26 by the half.

For the contest, UAH shot an impressive 56.3 percent including 5-for-12 from 3-point land, and the team was strong defensively in limiting the damage from 31 turnovers as it held CBU to shoot just 30.4 percent. The Chargers also won the battle on the glass, grabbing 35 rebounds to 22 for the Bucs.

Jasmyne Reeves led UAH in rebounding, pulling down seven.

CBU was led on the night by Madison Luckett who scored 12 and collected six boards including three on the offensive end.

The Chargers will now step out of GSC play on Thursday for an exhibition contest at Vanderbilt, and the team will then host rival North Alabama on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall.
