Live AudioRIVALRY RENEWED: For the 74th time, the Chargers and North Alabama will meet on the hardwood as the Lions visit Kelly Court at Spragins Hall at 2 p.m. on Saturday. UAH – who played an exhibition at Vanderbilt on Thursday – will take an 8-8 (5-5 GSC) record into the showdown, and the game can be heard in the Tennessee Valley on 97.7 The Zone.
SHOOTING WELL: The Chargers have been strong from the floor in the team's last five games, connecting on 45.0 percent of their attempts during that span. Among players with at least 15 attempts in the five games, freshman
Chandler Elder leads the way having made 10-of-17 to hit 58.8 percent of her shots, and she was strong in UAH's win at Christian Brothers on Monday as she scored 14 to lead the team.
TWINS COMING ON: Josi and
Dina Saunders rank second and third, respectively, on the team in scoring, and the pair has been especially strong in UAH's last five games as Josi has averaged 13.2 points per contest while Dina has scored 10.6 in helping the Chargers go 3-2.
MAKING SHOTS THE KEY: Under first-year head coach
Andrea Lemmond's Princeton-style offense, the Chargers earn plenty of quality shots, and when those shots fall, the Chargers – in what may seem to be an obvious conclusion – win. UAH is shooting 46.4 percent in wins compared to 35.2 percent in losses, and the team is 8-2 when outshooting the opposition.
AT THE STRIPE: The Chargers have taken advantage of its 300 trips to the free throw line, converting on 73 percent of its attempts to rank second in the GSC in free throw percentage.
Halle Jarnagin is shooting 76.5 percent at the stripe to rank sixth in the conference.
ABOUT NORTH ALABAMA: The Lions visit Huntsville with an 8-6 (5-5 GSC) record after falling 68-60 at West Georgia on Thursday, giving UNA losses in three of its last five games. Jennifer Towne leads UNA with 14.4 points per game, while Mekena Randle has scored 11.3 points per game while averaging a team-best 7.2 rebounds.
SERIES HISTORY: UNA holds a strong 52-21 advantage in the all-time series between the two programs, and last season the Lions hung on for an 87-84 victory in the contest in the Rocket City.
