HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team picked up a rivalry win in front of a raucous, near-capacity crowd on Saturday evening at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall, knocking off visiting North Alabama 81-72. The Chargers improve to 13-4 (8-3 Gulf South Conference), while UNA slips to 6-11 (3-8 GSC).

Preston Herring had a double-double for the Chargers by the halftime break and went on to finish the night with 18 points and 15 boards, recording his fifth double-double of the season while increasing his GSC-best rebounding mark to 9.2 per game. The junior also recorded a pair of blocks.

Two other Chargers scored 18 in the contest as Ronnie Mack hit four triples and Seab Webster nailed three shots from long-range to both match Herring in offensive output. Kip Owens joined them in double figures with 10 points in 13 minutes, while Troy Saxton added a career-best 10 assists to his five points while not committing any turnovers.

Leading UNA offensively was Brandon Herman who scored 23 to be one of four Lions to register double figures in the contest.

The Chargers led for the majority of the contest including a 34-29 advantage at the halftime break, and UAH would push the margin out to 14 on two different occasions in the second half for its largest lead of the night. UNA did narrow the gap to as little as three at the midway point of the second half and down to five with just 20 seconds left, but UAH had an answer to each push from the visitors to pick up the win.

For the game, UAH shot 44.6 percent from the field, while the Lions connected on 42.6 percent of their tries. Behind Herring's strong outing, the Chargers also won the battle on the glass by a 41-38 margin.

UAH now returns to the road, heading to Valdosta State on Thursday for a 7 p.m. CST tip-off.
