VALDOSTA, Ga. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team fell to host Valdosta State on Thursday night, dropping a 61-46 decision. The Chargers slip to 8-10 (5-7 Gulf South Conference), while VSU improve to 9-9 (5-7 GSC).

Pacing the Chargers was
Halle Jarnagin who scored 12 including an 8-for-9 performance at the charity stripe, and the junior from Brentwood, Tennessee, also added a team-best five rebounds. Joining Jarnagin in double figures was
Dina Saunders who scored 10.

Neither team was particularly strong shooting the ball in the opening 20 minutes, with UAH shooting 35.0 percent in the period while VSU connected on 32.1 percent of its attempts, but 12 second chance points and 11 points off of UAH turnovers allowed the hosts to grab a 27-20 lead at the halftime break.

The Chargers would close the gap to just five out of the locker room after a Saunders bucket, but the Lady Blazers would eventually go ahead by as many as 21 points on their way to the victory.

A second-half shooting mark of 58.3 percent allowed VSU to finish the game with a 44.2 percent success rate from the field, while UAH finished the night hitting 31.8 percent of its attempts. The Lady Blazers – who were led by Maggie Davis and Amy Duke who both scored 15 – also hit six 3-pointers to shoot 46.2 percent from beyond the arc.

With Duke's nine leading the way, Valdosta State won the battle on the glass by a 41-24 margin.

UAH remains on the road on Saturday when the Chargers travel to Pensacola to take on West Florida. The contest is slated for a 2 p.m. start.
