CLINTON, Miss. | The UAH volleyball team won on Friday at Mississippi College by 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 27-25) at A.E. Wood Coliseum in a Gulf South Conference matchup. UAH improves to 13-3, 4-3 GSC, while MC dips to 2-13, 1-6 GSC.
Mississippi College started out strong in the opening set, as the Choctaws owned a 7-4 advantage early into the frame. However, the Chargers jumped out in front with an 8-0 run to take a 13-7 lead. UAH continued to lead the frame following the rally and went on to close out the 25-18 win in the first set on a 5-0 run with senior
Alexis Deal serving.
The Chargers were led by
Haley Snyder and
Anna Claire Johnson who each totaled four kills apiece in the stanza.
MC again played well at the beginning of the frame and held a 16-14 lead midway through the second set. The Chargers were able to rally for four consecutive points to overcome the deficit and take an 18-14 lead over the Choctaws. At the end of the set, UAH went on to score seven of the final 10 points to win the second set 25-22 and take a 2-0 match lead.
The Blue and White swung a collective .342 for the second stanza, led by
Olivia Bauman with six kills on a .364 hitting percentage.
The Chargers offense jumped out early with a 4-0 run at the outset of the third and led for the majority of the frame until Mississippi College tied it late at 24-24. Both squads traded points before Johnson totaled back-to-back kills to win the frame 27-25 and complete the 3-0 sweep of the Choctaws.
Johnson led the UAH attack on Friday with 14 kills, while
Haley Hop paced the defense with 10 digs. Sophomore
Kirsten Giles posted team-highs with 35 assists and three service aces.
UAH looks ahead to a Tuesday GSC matchup in Livingston, Alabama against West Alabama at 7 p.m.
