SEASON OPENER: The 12th-ranked Chargers open the 2015-16 campaign on the road in Florida for the Gulf South Conference/Sunshine State Conference Challenge hosted by Saint Leo. UAH will open up play with a neutral site contest against Tampa on Friday at 4 p.m. CST before turning around to play Saint Leo at 3 p.m. CST on Saturday.
 
ON THE AIRWAVES: Friday's first half and the entirety of Saturday's contest will be carried on 97.7 The Zone in the Tennessee Valley with Steve Moulton on the call. Both full games will also be available on 977thezone.com.
 
RECAPPING TENNESSEE: UAH played just one preseason exhibition, traveling to Knoxville last Friday to battle the Volunteers, and the Chargers turned in an especially strong second half in a 96-83 setback. Seab Webster led UAH with 21 points, while Preston Herring scored 14 and grabbed seven rebounds.
 
OFF THE BENCH: Chayse Elliott has been impressive this preseason for the Chargers, and he continued that against Tennessee as he logged 26 minutes off the bench for UAH, scoring 10 and matching Herring with seven rebounds to tie for the team lead on the glass.
 
ABOUT TAMPA: The Spartans finished last season 18-10 and 10-6 in conference play, bowing out to Nova Southeastern in the SSC tournament. Picked to finish sixth in the SSC preseason poll, the leading returner for Tampa is Austin Rettig who scored 15 per game while also grabbing 6.3 rebounds per contest a season ago.
 
SERIES HISTORY: After an 80-64 win last year, the Chargers are now 1-2 all-time against Tampa. In that win, Greg Gardner scored 19 while dishing out seven assists, and Webster added 14 points and five boards.
 
ABOUT SAINT LEO: Under the direction of new head coach Vince Alexander, the Lions have been picked eighth in the SSC preseason poll after concluding last season 14-15 (6-10 SSC). The squad lost its leading scorer and rebounder in Ron Foxx but does return Marcus Dewberry who scored 9.8 points per contest last while also dishing out 3.4 assists.
 
SERIES HISTORY: The two programs met for the first time last season in Huntsville, and the Chargers were 71-58 winners. Webster scored 21 in the victory, while Herring collected an impressive 14 rebounds.
