PHOTOSHUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team continued its winning ways on Saturday afternoon, knocking off visiting West Georgia 58-54 at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall. The Chargers improve to 6-2 (3-1 GSC) with the victory, while UWG slips to 2-8 (2-2 GSC).
Â
Loren Foster hit five 3-pointers and scored a career-best 18 points to pace the Chargers, while
Caroline Dodd came off the bench to score 10. Narrowly missing out on a double-double was
Chandler Elder who scored nine, collected 11 rebounds, and dished out three assists.
Â
Elder was strong at the charity stripe where she went 7-for-8 on the afternoon. The visiting Wolves – led by Katrina Littlepage's 20 points – were in front for much of the first quarter, leading 15-14 at the end of the first period, but the Chargers would go into the locker room at the half up by one at 30-29 after outscoring UWG 16-14 in the second.
Â
Two quick 3-pointers out of the break put the hosts up by its largest advantage of the game at 36-29, but though the Wolves would tie the contest on three occasions, UAH's bench scored 14 of the team's 28 second-half points to aid in not allowing the guests to ever reclaim the lead.
Â
UAH shot 43.2 percent for the contest and was 8-for-19 from beyond the arc, but the team's defensive performance was also strong as it held UWG to a shooting mark of just 32.8 percent.
Â
The Chargers also won the battle on the glass with 36 rebounds to West Georgia's 31.
Â
With
Halle Jarnagin's five pacing the team, UAH combined for 12 assists on the team's 19 made field goals.
Â
Continuing the four-game homestand, the Chargers will be back in action on Thursday when Shorter visits. Tip-off in the Rocket City is slated for 5:30 p.m.
