Saturday, Feb. 14 (DH) | 1 p.m. | LIVE STATSWELCOME BACK: The 12th-ranked Chargers wrapped up play at the Chillout last weekend with a 4-2 mark, and the team will now return to Charger Park for its official home opener when it welcomes Nova Southeastern on Thursday for a pair before starting conference play with a home series against West Georgia. The first pitch is slated for 1 p.m. on all three days as UWG visits Friday – a doubleheader – and Saturday.
HOME SUCCESS: The Chargers are always strong in the Rocket City, but the team has been especially good at Charger Park in the past two seasons, setting the program record for home wins with 22 in 2013 and matching that number again last season.
CIRCLE SUCCESS: Last week at the Chillout, UAH pitchers combined for a team ERA of just 1.40 as the squad gave up just eight earned runs in 40 innings of work. Both
Tyler Harrison and
Kimberly Jack posted clean ERAs of 0.00, while
Emily Glover collected a staff-best 14 strikeouts in 15.2 innings pitched.
HELPING ON OFFENSE, TOO: Glover was also strong at the plate a week ago, driving in seven runs on six hits while also scoring three times. Two of Glover's hits were for extra bases as she picked up a double and a home run.
THIEVERY: After setting the GSC record for steals in a season, the Chargers picked up 14 stolen bases in 16 attempts in the six games at the Chillout.
Victoria Frith (4-for-4),
Haley Thompson (3-for-3), and
Victoria Crumpton (2-for-2) were all perfect on the basepaths.
ABOUT NOVA SOUTHEASTERN: The Sharks are 5-2 after posting a 3-2 last weekend at Eckerd's annual tournament in Clearwater, Florida. Lorena Spaulding is batting a team-best .667 while driving in six runs, and Rebecca Thornton has posted a perfect 4-0 record in the circle, allowing just five earned runs for a 1.35 ERA in 26.0 innings.
SERIES HISTORY: The Chargers are 8-1 all-time against NSU.
ABOUT WEST GEORGIA: The Wolves started the campaign last weekend in Huntsville at the Chillout, posting a 3-3 mark before falling in a doubleheader to Georgia College to start conference play at 3-5 overall on the season. Amanda Voyles is hitting .320 on the season to lead the UWG offensive effort, while the pitching staff is led by Katie Shultes who owns a 2.62 ERA.
